AGE Scotland supports WASPI Scotland’s campaign and efforts to raise awareness of the impact of the State Pension age increase on 1950s born women. We think the changes to State Pension age were unfair as they were not properly communicated and did not give the affected women enough time to plan for their futures. It is unacceptable that many 1950s born women have been left in great financial hardship due to the State Pension age increase. Age Scotland regularly attends the WASPI Cross Party Group at the Scottish Parliament and, along with our sister charity Age UK, we campaign for a fairer pensions system and highlight the reforms needed for priority groups such as women, unpaid carers, disabled people and people from ethnic minorities.
The STUC Women’s Committee applaud the work of the WASPI campaign. We have fully supported the campaign since it was established, and we remain committed to do all we can to ensure women of retirement age get pension justice and the compensation they deserve.
